Thursday 8 May 2025 marks 80 years since VE (Victory in Europe) Day when the Second World War came to an end in Europe.
VE day is an opportunity for the nation to come together to honour and pay tribute to the Second World War generation from across the UK and Commonwealth, through a series of national and local events and activities.
Streethay played a quiet but meaningful role during World War II, much like many rural English communities. While there may not be extensive records of direct military engagements in Streethay itself, the RAF airbase in Fradley meant that residents of Streethay will have worked or volunteered in supporting roles.
Streethay Parish Council are thrilled to be hosting a Community Picnic in recognition of VE Day. There are many other events taking place locally too.
If you would like to tell stories of those that served and the VE Day generation, from the men and women who fought, to children who were evacuated, and women on the home front, please feel free to share them on our social media accounts
